Treetops Hosts Women’s Golf Day, Showcases Ladies Golf Schools

By Greg Johnson –

International Women’s Golf Day is being observed for the 10th time this year, and Treetops Resort is among the participating Michigan golf venues taking part by celebrating women in golf.

On June 1, Treetops will present a free golf clinic from 4-6 p.m. for women who register for the event. It will be focused on putting and chipping with Treetops pros Todd Zunker and Mark Hogan instructing. All skill levels are welcome. Afterward, from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m., a happy hour will be presented on the Jones Pro Shop deck adjacent to the Robert Trent Jones Sr., Masterpiece course.

Women’s Golf Day is about empowering women through golf, and Treetops is also using the day to highlight the start of their annual Ladies Golf Schools.

Zunker, the resort’s new director of golf, says this is a chance for women to build their golf game and also connect with others in a fun, supportive setting. He was involved with Women’s Golf Day in a prior golf position he held, and said it is a terrific way to introduce the game of golf and enhance existing skills. “It’s relaxed, low-key with some beverages and fun included,” he said.

Space is limited, so register asap at treetops.com.

Zunker said the golf schools will be presented with the same philosophy but also be adjusted to answer specific needs of players in the schools.

“If they want to learn how to chip, putt, or hit a driver, whatever part of the game, we will work on those,” he said. “If they just want to learn proper etiquette, raking bunkers, those other parts of the game, we will go with that. We are going to ask and listen and then gear the school toward what they want to do.”

The ladies golf school will run Monday through Wednesday afternoon, and women can take part in just the Women’s Golf Day event, too. “We are just showcasing women’s golf, and the golf we have here for them to enjoy,” Zunker said.

International Women’s Golf Day partners with the PGA of America, the USGA and the R&A, and there are 1,350 registered locations like Treetops in 85 countries. In 2024, it resulted in 406.9 million social media impressions.

“Women’s golf is growing, and we want women to know Treetops will help in any way possible,” Zunker said.

As for golf at the resort, Masterpiece is just one of five courses in the Treetops collection. The others include Premier, the only Tom Fazio-designed course in Michigan, along with the Rick Smith-designed Signature, Tradition and the famous par 3, Threetops.

The resort is a flagship property that also markets with eight other golf facilities as part of the Gaylord Golf Mecca. In all, the Mecca offers 17 courses and 21 lodging partners. Treetops will build you a package to stay and play at just Treetops but also includes opportunities to play any of the other Mecca courses if a visitor chooses.
