Mecca Welcomes Todd Zunker, New Director of Golf at Treetops Resort

The Gaylord Golf Mecca welcomes Todd Zunker, the new director of golf for Treetops Resort. He left Walt Disney World Golf in Florida with a specific area of experience and expertise that should fit in perfectly with America’s favorite summer golf destination.
“What I bring the most is the experience of providing a fun, inviting atmosphere for the golfers,” the 47-year-old Wisconsin native said.
“Disney does a wonderful job of tying into the emotional experience so that people go home and remember it and then want to come back to feel that way once again,” he said. “Treetops blazed a trail for golf resorts not only in Michigan but across the country. It’s a place where people have fond memories. That’s where I feel I fit right in because we will strive to always treat people with respect, welcome them and help them to create memories and enjoy a meaningful experience.”

Zunker, a PGA professional who has also worked in resort golf at Streamsong Resort in Florida and is a former operations supervisor with the PGA Tour’s TPC Network, joked that he left sunny Florida for a state of emergency from the recent ice storm in Gaylord.
“Some things are going to be a big change for our family, but being part of a golf resort is not. I’m excited to open the courses in May and feel the vibe of golfers coming to a place with so much great golf available to them,” he said.
Treetops, one of three resorts and nine properties in the Mecca cooperative marketing group, has five heralded golf courses. Their lineup includes the Masterpiece, created by legendary architect Robert Trent Jones, the Premier, which is the only Tom Fazio design in Michigan, and of course the Signature, Tradition and famed Threetops par 3, which were designed by the resort’s first director of golf, Rick Smith.

The five courses at Treetops are part of the 17 courses in the Mecca collection, and the four-season resort is also a lodging leader and partner. Zunker elevated overall guest satisfaction at Disney and aided in $2.5 million in sales over the 2024 golf season.
“I am confident that his dedication to exceptional service and his depth of knowledge of the golf industry will elevate the golf experience for players of all levels,” Barry Owens, the general manager of Treetops said.

The first event Zunker will oversee at Treetops is the annual We’re Open OPEN on May 3. It’s a scramble team event that runs $100 per person. Learn more at treetops.com.
“Can’t wait,” Zunker said. “We’ll be ready, and the team will do its best to make it fun and memorable.”
