Judy Mason of Michaywe Pines Named GAM Club Services Rep of the Year
By Greg Johnson –
Judy Mason is starting her 23rd year as the golf director at Michaywe Pines Course, but looking back has never really been her thing.
Forging ahead is what she does best.
Whether it’s helping lead the popular golf course, contributing to the Gaylord Golf Mecca, giving lessons, leading local junior golf, or even taking a turn in the Jack Pine Grill kitchen when needed, Mason forges ahead.

Many have noticed, including the Golf Association of Michigan, which recently named her the GAM Club Services Representative of the Year. The GAM annually presents the award to a club representative who demonstrates outstanding service to golf in Michigan.
Drew Yntema, director of member services for the GAM, nominated Mason for the award. “Through her long-lasting efforts Judy has consistently supported GAM’s core initiatives by not only hosting amateur championships and qualifiers but organizing the world handicap system education seminars and helping grow GAM memberships year after year at Michaywe Pines,” he said. “In addition, she actively works to enhance every golfer’s experience and provides access to valuable GAM membership programs, including Golf Genius and GHIN software to help elevate the club’s events and leagues.”
Ken Hartmann, senior director of competitions and USGA services for the GAM, said Mason is an exceptional director of golf. “She is all about the game of golf and service, works sunup to sundown and does it all,” he said. “If you need decisions made, she makes them. If you need a cart pulled up or put away, she is not above doing that, too. She is always willing to host tournaments and do whatever she can. She understands the business, she cares and she is proud of Michaywe and its golf course.”

Mason said she was flabbergasted and humbled to win an award from the GAM. “I guess I was shocked that I was selected,” she said. “It’s humbling that the GAM feels I should win an award. It was very unexpected.”
Mason has built a rich resume with Michaywe, and humble as always, she thanked the Michaywe Golf Association for being a key part of her career. “We have great people in the association who volunteer and do anything they can to enhance the game,” she said. “Like what the GAM does for golf around the state, our association answers our needs and shapes this great golf community.”
