Gaylord Golf Mecca Voted 2018 Best Destination

Another great Gaylord Golf Mecca season is in the books and was booked by many.  And apparently, those who also read Golftime Magazine, enjoyed their visits and voted in a wonderful manner.
Gaylord was chosen as the Best Destination by the readers of Golftime in the magazine’s first-ever Best of the Midwest Awards for 2018.
“Sure, it doesn’t have beaches or big cities nearby, like some of the other getaways in the Midwest, but what the glorious golf Mecca called Gaylord, Michigan, has in spades, friends, is fantastic, affordable golf, four terrific resorts, and gorgeous, get-away-from-it-all landscape,” the magazine said in announcing the awards on its website. “Gaylord’s 15 fine courses in the Mecca offer big-name architects and lower prices than you’d expect, helping it edge out Kohler, Wisconsin, and its Northern Michigan cousin, Traverse City, as the fan-favorite golf destination. When it comes to making easy destination decisions, Gaylord is simply a gimme.”
We knew this of course, but it is nice to hear others shout it out, not to mention send us a shiny new plaque award that deems us the Best Destination in the Midwest.

By the way, Mecca member Treetops Resort also received some hardware in the mail. Beyond being part of the Best Destination in the Midwest, Treetops was cited in three categories.
It was chosen as the Best Value in the Midwest among resorts.
“Five fantastic courses by Rick Smith, Robert Trent Jones, Sr., and Tom Fazio,” the magazine said. “Unlimited stay-and-play golf packages starting at $99! That’s part of what has made Treetops the tops on so many summer checklists. As the crown jewel in America’s Summer Golf Capital, Treetops wins with quantity, quality, and affordability.”
The Rick Smith Signature course at Treetops was also chosen by readers as the Best Course in Michigan.

“In a surprising upset, Treetops Resort’s stellar Rick Smith Signature course topped another of Rick Smith’s (design) projects, Arcadia Bluffs,” the magazine said. “Treetops is one of the most popular destinations in the Midwest, and the outpouring of love for the Signature course was unbeatable.”
The Golftime readers even found the food of the Mecca to their liking, specifically at The Legends on the Hill restaurant at Treetops. It was chosen Best Lunch @ Turn in the voting.
“What are the three most important things for a great lunch at the turn?” the magazine asked. “Taste, time, and price. Legends on the Hill at Treetops hits the mark in all three and adds unlimited views from the top of the ski hill as an appetizer!”
Stop by the Gaylord Area Convention and Tourism Bureau, home of the Gaylord Golf Mecca offices, and check out the new plaque. It shines at 319 West Main in downtown Gaylord.
Oh, and now that we are even more popular, it’s never too early to book your next visit to the home of 15 award-winning golf courses and 20 lodging partners in the Best Destination in the Midwest. See gaylordgolfmecca.com or call 800-345-8621.
