Gaylord Golf Club Among Top 50 Public Courses in U.S.

It’s not a well-kept secret.
Gaylord Golf Club has long been considered a golf gem with wonderful greens in Northern Michigan, and it has been a steadfast popular destination for Gaylord Golf Mecca golfers for four decades.
It makes perfect sense then that Gaylord Golf Club has appeared on another list of the top public golf courses in the United States.
GolfPass, formerly known as Golf Advisor, collected data from the 265,000 course reviews on their site from 2020 and created the 2021 Golfers’ Choice list of the top 50.
Gaylord Golf Club checked in at No. 44 and was one of just two Michigan courses on the list. The other was Pilgrim’s Run in Pierson on the western side of the state. It was ranked No. 31. By the way, No. 1 on the list was Yocha Dehe at Cache Creek Casino Resort in Brooks, California, and other famous spots on the list included Erin Hills in Erin, Wisconsin, the Ocean Course at Kiawah Island in South Carolina and the TPC Scottsdale course in Arizona.
Gaylord Golf Club, of course, was among the most affordable on the list.

“The clubhouse was friendly and accommodating, the course conditions were excellent, the routing itself is just challenging enough to hold your attention, the greens were quick and true, and they made safety a priority!”
Exactly. No secret. The Don Child-designed 18 holes are all that and more and the greens are well known as the consistently great work by longtime Superintendent Paul Holmes and his staff.
GolfPass also compiled other lists, like the top public courses in Michigan. Gaylord Golf Club was No. 2 behind only Pilgrim’s Run, and it also made the top 25 U.S. courses for top course conditions. It checked in at No. 14 because as we all know – Gaylord Golf Club has great greens.
“It was a little bit of a surprise to me to make the top 50 and it’s great,” said J.T. Aude, the longtime head golf professional at Gaylord Golf Club.
“To be on a list with some of those courses that are really world renown is fabulous. It shows what we are doing is working the way it is supposed to work. We have a great staff taking care of our customer and we are giving a great product to them. It’s coming back to us in awards and that’s the way we want it.”
