Gaylord Golf Mecca’s Treetops Resort Tops in National Golf Awards
Golf Digest considers a visit to Treetops Resort as one of its chosen “5 Greatest Golf Experiences in Michigan,” and an “Ultimate Michigan Buddies Trip.”
Golftime Magazine gives Treetops the nod for “Best Value in the Midwest” and “Best Lunch @ the Turn” with Legends on the Hill restaurant.
Golfweek Magazine named the Signature course at Treetops as one of the “Best Courses You Can Play in Michigan” once again.
The Wall Street Journal recently featured Threetops in a list of “Par-Three Courses at Top Resorts With Enough Diversions to Keep Even Newbies Entertained.”
And the Gaylord Golf Mecca overall was also recently honored by Golftime as “The Best Golf Destination” in the Midwest.
Of course we knew this stuff, but it’s nice to have others notice and hand out pats on the back for a job well done.
Treetops has been tops for 31 years as a national golf destination, as Robert Trent Jones Senior so accurately predicted upon completion of design and construction of the Masterpiece course.
“Golfers from around the world will come here to play,” he said.
And they have, and the resort has maintained its proud role in the Gaylord Golf Mecca from day one. Every once in a while others notice when they decide to hand out awards, and the Gaylord Golf Mecca and Treetops appreciate it very much.
Treetops is the Midwest’s must-play stop and has one of the best collections of golf courses in world. Five courses by the legendary Jones (Masterpiece), the renowned Tom Fazio (Premier) and award-winning Rick Smith (Signature, Tradition and Threetops) make it fact.
All five courses have been on awards lists in recent years, with Fazio’s work getting the latest love from Golf Digest as one of “9 Michigan Courses You Should Play at Least Once.”
“The only Tom Fazio design in Michigan has all of the quintessential Fazio Traits,” the magazine said. “There are multiple angles of attack for players of various skill levels; impeccable conditioning and Fazio’s greens are 18 individual masterpieces vexing you with tiers and undulations.”
Big, nice words work for Fazio’s work at Treetops. They also work for the best par 3 course in the world in Threetops. Smith’s beautiful collection of par 3 holes is clearly one of the most unique par 3 courses in the world because of its vexing elevation changes and beauty. Love that word, “vexing.”
Lee Trevino, a regular visitor for events when he was still playing full time, told golfers to play Threetops for practice. He didn’t use the word vexing though.
“It will teach you how to score,” he said. “You have to hit it the right distance and control the ball. That’s scoring.”
Personally, I could live at Treetops North where four of the courses are located. Just give me a cot and unlimited tee times, and maybe a fast cart to play as many holes as possible on those 16-hour summer days.
It’s that good, and just one part of the Gaylord Golf Mecca, which is The Best Golf Destination not only the Midwest but clearly one of the best in the United States and dare I say, the world.
Think about it, it is not vexing. Award-winning Treetops, The Loon Golf Resort, The Natural at Beaver Creek, Michaywe’ – The Pines, Gaylord Golf Club, Indian River Golf Club and Black Lake Golf Club with 20 lodging partners at every price point possible is what you find here.
