August is More Than National Golf Month in The Mecca
In many places it’s too hot to play golf in August despite the fact it has been proclaimed as National Golf Month.
In the Gaylord Golf Mecca, August is perfect for golf and right on through September and deep into October, but we will talk about fall color tours another time.
We’re talking the heat of the summer right now, and there simply isn’t a better place to play golf in August, in National Golf Month, than in the Gaylord Golf Mecca. It’s the golf that is hot in the Mecca while the weather is perfect.
For over 30 years the top golf courses in the Gaylord area have marketed together as the Gaylord Golf Mecca, the best combination of quantity and quality of golf in the Midwest right in the heart of Michigan’s beautiful land of lakes and trees. There are multiple courses in multiple places to fit any group. The courses at The Loon Golf Resort, Treetops Resort, The Natural at Beaver Creek Resort, The Pines at Michaywe’, Black Lake Golf Club, Indian River Golf Club, Gaylord Golf Club and Otsego Resort give you 15 golf course options. Robert Trent Jones, Tom Fazio, Rick Smith and even the legendary Wilfrid E. Reid designed holes in the Mecca.
The Gaylord Golf Mecca also has 20 lodging partners, who together count over 1,300 rooms, which means you can have anything you want or desire – resorts, great hotels, lakeside cottages, secluded cabins. Accommodations range from luxurious to rustic, from traditional to modern, from camp fire to a fireplace that starts with the flip of a switch.
The Gaylord Area Convention & Tourism Bureau has almost 40 restaurant partners in town. The list includes the many options at the golf resorts and courses along with the growing extra-large selection of downtown dining destinations. Casual, fine dining, brew pubs, diners, whatever your palate desires is available with options.
Michigan, of course, is the Great Lakes State, and Gaylord holds up its end of the bargain with over 90 inland lakes including Big Bear Lake, Big Bradford Lake, Big Lake, Dixon Lake, Thumb Lake, and Otsego Lake. On top of that, Burt Lake, Black lake, Lake Michigan, Lake Charlevoix and more are just a short trip away. A trip to the Mecca doesn’t have to be all about golf. Swim, water ski, do all types of fishing, relax on a pontoon, canoe, kayak or jet about on watercraft of all sorts.
To top it all off, a visit to the Mecca for golf rounds or any activity can last late into the day. Gaylord is located in the heart of northern Michigan and in the Eastern Time zone where Daylight Savings makes you wait just a little longer for a beautiful sunset over the many lakes and golf courses in the region. Those sunsets are worth it, especially if you are on the way in from a great round of golf or sitting on one of the decks that overlook the world-class collection of No. 18 holes at the member courses of the Mecca.
August isn’t just National Golf Month in the Mecca. August is perfect.
