Black Lake and Smith Signature Among GOLF Magazine’s “Best Courses Near Your”

Two of the top golf courses in the Gaylord Golf Mecca, the Smith Signature at Treetops Resort and Black Lake Golf Club have been selected among “The Best Courses Near You” by GOLF Magazine. Black Lake, located in Onaway, was ranked No. 6 and the Smith Signature No. 8 on the list of best courses in Michigan.
This latest accolade for Gaylord courses appears in the September 2016 issue. The biennial list, put together by the magazine’s editors and its panel of golf industry insiders, highlights the top public golf courses across the United States, as well as the best in each state.
Black Lake Golf Club, which opened in 2000, was among the best new courses that year and has since earned high praise from all of the leading golf publications. The 18-hole facility, on 300-acres cut from a 1,000-acre forest retreat, is owned by the United Auto Workers. The course features a variety of short, medium, and long holes that meander in and around several wetland areas bringing nature directly in play.
