National Women’s Golf Week is in Full Swing

It goes without saying that golf has a new vibe, which is welcoming a crowd of fresh faces to this time-tested sport. More casual golfers are teeing it up in trendy attire with Bluetooth speakers in tow. Respect for the game is still strong, but the goal for some has shifted to having fun instead of keeping a competitive score. Along with appealing to a broader audience overall, this classic pastime has become a staple activity for women.

Female golfers are taking over the greens in record numbers these days. According to the National Golf Foundation, 7.9 million golfers are female, an all time high.

National Women’s Golf Day has been observed since 2016 as a way for courses to welcome female golfers with open arms. What was once a one day event to recognize this minority of players and encourage their participation has evolved into a weeklong celebration of camaraderie on the course.

The Gaylord Golf Mecca regularly invites media guests to explore the gorgeous greens of our 16 member courses. This year’s golf familiarization (fam) tour just happens to fall during National Women’s Golf Week and includes five fantastic female golf aficionados. Our special guests have been touring the Mecca’s immaculate courses this week, creating a social media buzz and collecting assets for future content including articles, blogs and videos.

Let’s meet the lineup:

Abbey Algiers

A notable authority on golf travel, Abbey is a prolific writer and world traveler. You can find Abbey’s work in Women’s Golf Magazine, Runners World, NY Golf Magazine/Destinations, GoNomad, Avid Golfer and LPGA Women’s Network among many others. Her motto is “have clubs, will travel.”

Finesse Bartlet

An up-and-coming content creator in the golf world, Finesse Bartlett has a following on Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, Facebook and more.

Alice Scott

Along with her husband, Danny, Alice Scott has created a popular brand for spreading the word about couples’ golf with “America’s Golfing Couple.” Together, they travel the world promoting destinations, tournaments and products.

Kerri Maher

This Canadian-based influencer has made a name for herself far and wide in the female golf and fitness community. Her fitness routines are created with the female golfer in mind and her following continues to grow on multiple platforms. Kerri empowers women to build confidence on and off the course through accessible, golf-focused fitness and positive, educational content.

Meg Watt

A Golf Mental Wellness Consultant and digital creator based in Detroit, Meg Watt is passionate about the mental side of the game. Her insights and experiences are shared to help golfers improve both on and off the course.

The group was joined at Michaywe Pines Course by their Golf Pro, Judy Mason, who previously served as the Chair of the Gaylord Golf Mecca.

Finally, although they’re not part of our fantastic five fam guests, we’d like to introduce two members of our marketing team. Representing the female golfer perspective are Christy Walcott, Director of Marketing & Communications and Val Wright, Social Media Manager. You’ll see Christy and Val on our courses throughout the season, collecting photos and videos and spreading the word about the Mecca.

We hope everyone is out enjoying the greens this week and be sure to give a special shoutout to the ladies teeing it up out there!
